Music Video Revision 2

Music Videos are comprised of three types of image

  • Performance: Simple and direct.
  • Conceptual clips: Further broken down into narrative and artistic.
  • A pure narrative clip contains no lip-synchronised singing and a visual story easy to follow.  If the story is an idea or a "concept', then it will also be conceptual.
  • Music videos use artistic elements to enhance the overall piece. Some videos are purely artistic since they show sequences with no obvious narrative or singing. They can be describe as artistic because they can purposely manipulate images but don't tell any sort of story. Purely artistic videos are more common in electronic or experimental videos.
  • (In the majority of videos they are combined).
Watch the video: what can you say about how the song"s meaning and lyrics have been explored in the video (predominantly through the editing)?

The music video 'Apesh*t' is a conceptual and performance video, meant to represent The Carters (Beyonce and Jay Z) as opulent, different and being the royalty of the music industry. The music video starts with a worm's eye view of a very expensive castle-like ceiling, this connotes that they are expensive linking to the lyrics "Stack my money fast and go".

Another shot that explains how the song's meaning and lyrics have been explored is the medium long angle shot of a throne room with this

Shot of them on a throne with legs around
paintings
row of people on a stair case
people falling a sleep, silence then people waking up
